About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a tightly contested Bundesliga encounter, 1899 Hoffenheim and VfL Wolfsburg shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw on Saturday. The match, played as part of Gameweek 26, saw both teams deliver spirited performances, though neither could claim a decisive edge. The game began with both sides probing for weaknesses, but it wasn't until the 65th minute that the deadlock was broken. Konstantinos Koulierakis (GAP +2.3%) put Wolfsburg ahead, capitalizing on a well-executed set-piece. Hoffenheim, however, responded with resilience, and their efforts were rewarded in the 83rd minute when substitute Grischa Prömel found the back of the net, leveling the score. From a tactical perspective, Hoffenheim's manager made three changes during the match, introducing Grischa Prömel, Tim Lemperle, and Ihlas Bebou to inject fresh energy into the squad. Wolfsburg's head coach also opted for a series of substitutions, bringing on Yannick Gerhardt, Adam Daghim, Jonas Wind, and Patrick Wimmer to maintain their attacking momentum. Key performances were noted from Vladimír Coufal (GAP +5.3%), who was instrumental in Hoffenheim's defensive solidity, and Wouter Burger (GAP +5.0%), who provided a robust presence in midfield. For Wolfsburg, Mohammed Amoura (GAP +4.4%) was a constant threat, showcasing his attacking prowess throughout the match. Pre-match expectations had Wolfsburg slightly favored, given their recent form and league standing. However, Hoffenheim's ability to secure a draw at home demonstrates their resilience and tactical adaptability. This result leaves both teams in a similar position in the Bundesliga table, with Hoffenheim looking to build on this performance in their upcoming fixtures. Wolfsburg, meanwhile, will aim to convert draws into wins to climb higher in the standings as the season progresses.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
